India released the SOAR Initiative program (Skilling for AI Readiness) on July 22, 2025. It focuses on students from grades 6 to 12. With three guided 15-hour modules, SOAR seeks to develop AI literacy at an early stage.
What SOAR Initiative Covers:
- SOAR provides three different student modules:
- AI to be Aware – Covers AI fundamentals and everyday applications.
- AI to Acquire – Instructs on generative AI, programming basics, and ethics.
- AI to Aspire – Emphasizes cybersecurity, AI careers, and future preparedness.
- Also, SOAR provides a 45‑hour “AI for Educators” component to prepare teachers. This makes sure teachers are able to confidently teach students about AI concepts.
Why It Matters:
First, SOAR fills the digital divide. It facilitates quality AI education for students living in cities as well as rural areas. Second, it supports India’s ambitious vision of becoming a “Viksit Bharat” in 2047. The program creates a future‑sufficient generation
Government’s Role in SOAR Initiative
It is supported by the Ministry of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship. The project has mobilized $14.4 million under a Skill Impact Bond. It guarantees SOAR reaches schools all over the country. Further, the scheme was initiated on the 10th anniversary of the Skill India Mission
Global and National Impact
SOAR also reflects India’s aspiration to be a leader in AI education worldwide. Plans are to implement the initiative in all schools within six months. Global tie-ups like that of France strengthen the ecosystem further
Classroom Experience
Hybrid learning—online theory and hands-on workshops. Schools are incentivized to set up AI clubs and labs. This develops practical knowledge and interest
Future Outlook
This project provides a solid foundation. Before long, AI may be included in mainstream school lessons. With growing confidence among students and teachers, India gets closer to a tech‑literate future workforce.
The SOAR program is a significant landmark in India’s AI education history. It empowers young minds with the necessary tools, bridges the digital divide, and equips a future generation with AI challenges. With robust support and implementation, SOAR can become a catalyst for India’s rise as an AI leader by 2047.
