The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is here! BMW officially launched the car in India today, July 17, 2025, after opening pre-bookings on July 9, 2025. BMW is building this new generation model right here in India, at their Chennai plant.
What’s New with the 2025 Model?
- Sleeker Design: It looks much sportier with sharper lines and a longer body. BMW has redesigned the front, giving it a fresh take on their famous kidney grille (you can even get an illuminated one!) and slimmer, adaptive LED headlights.
- Bigger Size, Better Clearance: The new model is 20mm longer (totaling 4,546mm) and 25mm taller (1,445mm). The width stays the same at 1,800mm. The wheelbase is 2,670mm. Good news for Indian roads: the ground clearance has increased by 19mm, now sitting around 160-170mm. It still has those cool frameless doors.
Inside the Cabin & Tech
The interior is much more modern and focuses on the driver. BMW used a lot of vegan leather and recycled plastics.
- High-Tech Displays: A single, curved screen combines a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen, both angled towards the driver.
- Latest Software: It runs on BMW’s newest iDrive 9 software, which offers excellent voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
- Fewer Buttons: The cabin looks clean and uncluttered because most functions are now on the touchscreen.
- Premium Features: You’ll find a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a wireless charger, and a digital key that lets your smartphone control basic functions and share access with up to five other users. It also includes automatic parking and a 360-degree camera.
- Safety First: The car comes equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including front collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, cruise control with braking, lane departure warning, and rear collision warning.
Engine and Performance
At launch, the 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe only offers a petrol engine option in India.
- Powerful Engine: It uses a 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-petrol engine.
- Strong Performance: This engine produces 156 hp and 230 Nm of torque.
- Smooth Transmission: It pairs with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
- Quick Acceleration: BMW claims it goes from 0 to 100 kmph in just 8.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 kmph.
- Good Mileage: The claimed fuel efficiency is 16.35 kmpl (ARAI).
- Engaging Drive: BMW has improved the chassis, steering, and suspension to make it more agile and offer a balanced ride, ensuring it keeps its sporty feel even with front-wheel drive. It even has a “Boost mode” for a 10-second burst of power.
Price and Competition
- Expected Price: Expect the new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe to cost between Rs 45 lakh and Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom).
- Main Rival: In India, its primary competitor is the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine.
