Well-known investor Dolly Khanna’s newly revealed ownership of a piece of Coffee Day Enterprises sent the company’s shares soaring 10%.Her name appeared in the company’s list of shareholders for the June 2025 quarter.
What’s Happening?
- Dolly Khanna Buys In: Dolly Khanna now owns 1.55% of Coffee Day Enterprises, which means she holds 32.78 lakh shares. She wasn’t listed as a shareholder in March 2025, so this is either a new investment or she increased her shares above the 1% mark.
- Share Price Jumps: Because of this news, Coffee Day Enterprises shares surged 10%, hitting their highest allowed price for the day (Rs 39.86) on the BSE. The day before, shares also went up by 7%.
- Stock Performance: Despite dropping 24% over the last year, Coffee Day shares have delivered a strong performance in 2025, gaining 67% year-to-date. Over the past three months, the stock has risen 42%, and in just the last month, it has increased by 14%.
Why the Investment?
Even though Dolly Khanna hasn’t said why she invested, market experts believe it could be due to:
- Better Financials: Coffee Day Enterprises lost less money in the first three months of 2025 (January-March). Their loss was Rs 114.16 crore, much less than the Rs 296.40 crore they lost in the same period last year. For the full year 2025, their loss dropped to Rs 143.20 crore from Rs 307.43 crore in 2024.
- Paying Off Debts: The company has been working hard to reduce its large debts. They sold their Global Village Tech Park for Rs 2,800 crore in 2020 and are selling other non-essential assets. Recently, a court decision stopped bankruptcy proceedings against them, and they’ve announced plans to pay back their bondholders.
