Get Ready, India! Tesla is Rolling In Next Week!
Big news for car lovers in India! Tesla, the famous electric car company, is finally opening its doors here. Get ready to see Tesla cars on Indian roads very soon!
Showrooms are Opening!
Tesla will officially launch in India next Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Their very first “experience center” will open in Mumbai’s fancy Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). If you’re in New Delhi, don’t worry – another Tesla showroom will open there in late July.
For the first week, the Mumbai showroom will welcome special guests and business partners. After that, everyone can visit and check out the cars!
Want to Buy a Tesla? Here’s When!
You’ll be able to order your own Tesla as early as next week (the week of July 14, 2025). And guess what? Tesla will start delivering cars to customers by late August 2025. The first model arriving will be the Model Y SUV, which is a very popular electric car around the world. These cars are coming straight from Tesla’s factory in China.
How Much Will a Tesla Cost in India?
Now, for the important part: the price. Because of India’s import taxes, Teslas will be quite expensive here. India adds a 70% tax on fully-built cars imported that cost under $40,000, plus other fees.
So, while a Model Y might cost around $46,630 in the US, in India, after all the taxes and charges, the final price could easily go over ₹60 lakh (6 million rupees). Yes, that’s a big jump!
No Made-in-India Teslas… Yet
For now, Tesla isn’t planning to build cars here in India. They will sell fully imported models. The Indian government has policies to encourage local manufacturing, but Tesla’s current plan is just to bring cars in from their factories abroad.
Why is Tesla Coming to India Now?
Tesla is looking for new places to grow. Sales have slowed down in some of their other big markets. India is the third-largest car market in the world, and more people here are becoming interested in electric cars. So, it’s a big opportunity for Tesla, even with the high import duties.
Get ready to see more Teslas on our roads soon. This is a big step for electric vehicles in India!
