IndiGo flight makes emergency landing in Bengaluru after making ‘Mayday’ call. ✈️ IndiGo flight 6E-6764 from Guwahati to Chennai makes a “Mayday” call due to fuel shortage!
✈️ What’s the matter?
Amidst concerns over airline safety in the country in the past few weeks, an IndiGo flight on Thursday made an emergency ‘Mayday’ call and made a safe landing in Bengaluru.
The flight was flying from Guwahati to Chennai and had 168 passengers on board. According to sources, the flight was diverted to Bengaluru after it was unable to get permission to land at the Chennai airport.
🛬 Why was “Mayday” declared?
According to an IndiGo spokesperson, the pilot made a ‘Mayday’ call to Bengaluru Air Traffic Control as the plane was running out of fuel. Due to bad weather in Chennai, the plane could not land on time. Therefore, the pilot made a ‘go-around’ and finally gave a ‘Mayday’ call when the fuel level reached a dangerous level.
🧑✈️ Action taken against the pilot
This incident took place on June 19, and both the pilots have been removed from the service list (derostered). This means that they will not be able to fly until further investigation.
📍 Another accident averted!
In a context where such mistakes often turn into major accidents, the safe landing of the IndiGo flight is certainly a relief.
🛠️ Another problem the next day
On June 20, another IndiGo flight bound for Madurai also landed back in Chennai due to a technical snag. There were about 68 passengers on this flight, and all the passengers were safely evacuated.
🔥 Second ‘Mayday’ call in a week
Before this incident, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner had also made a “Mayday” call on June 12. The plane was flying from Ahmedabad to London and crashed shortly after takeoff.
📢 Conclusion
Given the overall course of events, the issue of safety in Indian civil aviation has once again come to the fore. Considering the ‘Mayday’ call of the IndiGo flight as a wake-up call, there is a need for the government and airlines to take strict measures to ensure smooth and safe air services.
